PRAYER
We thank you Father for the illumination that comes with your Word, this is exactly what we receive today as we receive your Word. Thank you for this impartation, in Jesus' Name. Amen.
Jesus went to hell for us and defeated satan, the one who had the power over death. He defeated him with his cohorts and put him to an open shame. Hallelujah!
"And having spoiled principalities and powers, He made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it." Colossians 2:15.
Afterwards, He took the keys of hell and death from him.
"I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death." Revelation 1:18.
Death was defeated in hell. We have power over death today because Jesus defeated death in hell. It's still hovering around because it's yet to be destroyed. The Bible says,
"The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death." 1 Corinthians 15:26.
Death reigned from Adam to Moses.
"Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come." Romans 5:14.
This was because the law was able to keep a man alive if he kept the whole of it
Today we are the ones reigning. Hallelujah!
For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Romans 5:17.
Death reigned like a king but we who have received abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness are reigning in life. Hallelujah!
As Christians, we have power to raise the dead. This power and authority has been given to us by Jesus. He says,
Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. Matthew 10:8.
Jesus Himself had several of such examples during his ministry. He met a funeral procession of a widow's only son being carried for burial. Jesus saw her and had compassion on her. We find this story in Luke 7:12-15.
"Now when He came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, He had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. And He came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And He said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. And He that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And He delivered him to his mother."
Another instance was, Jairus, a ruler of the synagogue, he called on Jesus to come to his house and pray for his dying daughter. As they went on, some messengers came with the news that his daughter was dead.
We read from Mark 5:36-42.
"As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, He saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe. And He suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James. And He cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly. And when He was come in, He saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn. But when He had put them all out, He taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying. And He took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise. And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was of the age of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment. "
The Lord Jesus gave believers the authority to heal the sick, cleanse the lepers and raise the dead. Apostle Peter demonstrated this in Acts 9:36-41. We read;
"Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that He would not delay to come to them. Then Peter arose and went with them. When He was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. And He gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when He had called the saints and widows, presented her alive."
This is not exclusive to Peter only and the rest of the disciples; every believer has the power to raise the dead; Jesus gave it to us. Praise the Lord!
So put that power to work today, activate and demonstrate it. Hallelujah!
